"Beware of the leaven..."

Today, in Luke 12, we hear Jesus' warning; "Beware of the leaven--that is, the hypocrisy--of the Pharisees."
He equates leaven, a substance such as yeast or a material as baking powder, to hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is defined as a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not; especially: the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion.

Who are the Pharisees that you should be aware of in your life?

I believe that before we call anyone a hypocrite we should as Moliere said, "..examine oneself for a very long time before thinking of condemming others."

"The true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive his deception, the one who lies with sincerity." ~ Andre Gide

In 1 Corinthians 5:7-8, St. Paul says, "Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. "

"Sincerity makes the very least person to be of more value than the most talented hypocrite." ~ Charles Spurgeon
