“The Good News” is a term that I’m starting to hear more and more. I’m hearing some politicians complaining that the media is always writing and talking about all the bad stuff that happens everyday. The apologists for the war being waged in the Middle East are constantly complaining that we don’t hear all the good that we are doing there.
I don’t agree with the war but I do agree that there is some good being done each day; just listen to the soldier’s that have come back from their tour of duty.
The “Good News” that I have become more familiar with is the message that’s proclaimed and handed down to us by the Evangelists in Scripture. But there are times, for me that is, that even reading the “Good News” I tend to dwell on the bad. I start to worry about a lot of things; my wife’s unwillingness to take the medications that keep her from having another psychotic episode, my son’s struggle in finding a decent job, and my mom’s constant need for attention.
Then I read in today’s “Good News” from John that quotes Jesus as saying, “I know those whom I have chosen.”
Matthew also writes about how, "Many are invited, but few are chosen."
John also writes, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.”
I am reminded by something deep inside, that I am to find Jesus in all my encounters. If I can master and keep this in the forefront of all my thoughts and words and actions, I will live in the “Good News.” I feel that if I don’t, I will always be one that was invited, but wasn’t chosen. I want to be one of the chosen.
Yes, we need to keep the “Good News” on the forefront.
“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
Praise the Lord for he is good.
