Love, Jealousy, Hate

Israel loved Joseph best of all his sons,
for he was the child of his old age;
and he had made him a long tunic.
When his brothers saw that their father loved him best of all his sons,
they hated him so much that they would not even greet him
~Genesis 37:3-4

Jealousy can take many forms, there are more or less elegant ways to get rid of someone who annoys us, and we must recognize that it is a very common temptation, even in a Christian community. We need to continually ask God for a deeper cleansing, not ever voluntarily accept in our hearts the slightest feeling of hostility towards a brother.

A person hates you for 1 of 3 reasons. 1) They want to be you. 2) They hate themselves. 3) They see you as a threat.

My wife's jealousy is getting ridiculous. The other day she looked at my calendar and wanted to know who May was. ~Rodney Dangerfield
